Q+A

  • When you receive your item from Tanner Hide Leather Works, put it straight to work! Your leather will age beautifully and develop its own patina with time. Every scratch, scuff, and dent tells a story - a badge of honor showcasing the hard work your leather does for you, day in and day out.

To keep your leather in top condition, we recommend conditioning it approximately 3 times per year using our Tanner Hide Leather Works Hide Balm or with a leather conditioner of your choice.

    Here’s how:

    1. Clean the leather with a lightly damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Remember, never fully wet your leather!

    2. Apply Hide Balm (or other leather conditioner) to your item using a t-shirt or other soft cloth.

    3. Rub in a circular motion to work the conditioner into the leather.

  • We choose the best materials available for all our items, but with daily use, the paint on our button snaps will eventually start to wear off. This is normal with daily use and is not considered a defect - this is just part of the unique patina that your item will develop over time.

  • It’s important to know that these subtle variations are actually a hallmark of genuine, high-quality leather.

Here's why you might see slight differences:

    • Natural Variation: Just like fingerprints, no two animal hides are exactly alike. Each piece of leather has its own unique characteristics, including minor marks, creases, and variations in grain and texture. These are not flaws; they are natural features that tell the story of the animal and make your leather product one-of-a-kind.

    • The Tanning Process: The way leather is dyed and finished can also lead to slight differences. Depending on how the hide absorbs the dyes, there may be subtle variations in color depth and tone across different pieces.

    • Lighting and Screens: The lighting used in product photography and the color settings on different screens (monitors, phones, tablets) can also affect how a color appears. We do our best to provide accurate photos, but the true, rich character of the leather is often best appreciated in person.

We see these minor imperfections and unique characteristics as part of the beauty and authenticity of real leather. They give each product its own personality and ensure that the item you own is truly unique to you.
